VirtualBox 4.08 and eComStation 2.1
Improvements with eComStation 2.1 have definitely made installing eCS as a guest much easier. The main thing is to make sure that you use the JFS filesystem and SoundBlaster 16 (PnP) card. The default networking option is NAT or you can bridge the adapter(s) if you prefer to use your router's DHCP service. I have not had time to investagate the USB options, anyone with experience please email me the details.
Here is something that I forgot the mention, "...hardware virtualisation technology turned on, which in turn means you must be using a processor that supports hardware virtualisation. You will need to check the Intel or AMD website as appropriate to find out if your exact CPU model supports VT-x (INTEL processors) or AMD-V (AMD processors)", thanks Ed.
Here is something else that I thought about doing, but didn't and ended up regretting it -- Ed wrote, "On your point about the registration key, instead of using a USB key, what I do is edit the ISO file and add my registration key file into the root directory of the CD. (this will then be drive S: during the install phase). This approach then works on versions of virtualbox where USB support is not available as well as when installing to VMWare ESX v4 on a remote server, where you can't physically plug in a USB key. I use the Windows program "UltraISO" to edit the ISO file but there are many other options under windows."
